Product Description

ARALDITE 2031-1 is a two-component, room-temperature-curing black epoxy paste adhesive for structural bonding of metals and composites. It is toughened to form a resilient bond and has thixotropic, non-slumping behavior, including non-sag application up to 10 mm. The mixed adhesive has a 60-70 minute pot life at 25°C, while integrated spacers establish a minimum 0.05 mm bondline. It is particularly suitable for GRP, CFRP and SMC bonding, and the supplier identifies high weathering resistance for bonded-joint applications.

Stage 1
Prepare the substrates
Remove oil, grease and dirt with an appropriate degreasing agent. Abrade or chemically etch where stronger and more durable joints are required, then perform a second degreasing step.
Stage 2
Mix or dispense
Mix Component A and Component B at 100:120 by weight or 100:100 by volume. Cartridge formats with mixers may be applied as ready-to-use mixed adhesive using the recommended dispensing tool.
Stage 3
Apply, assemble and cure
Apply the adhesive to the pretreated, dry surfaces, assemble and clamp promptly, and maintain even contact pressure through cure. Clean tools with hot water and soap before residue cures.
Storage and Handling

Store both components in sealed containers at room temperature and use by the expiry date shown on the label. Clean uncured residue from tools with hot water and soap before cure. Use suitable gloves, eye protection and ventilation, avoid skin contact and consult the current Safety Data Sheet for full handling requirements.

Weathering, ageing and fluid-exposure evidence

Condition-specific laboratory programs evaluate lap shear performance after tropical weathering, heat ageing, Cataplasma ageing and immersion in multiple media. These results apply to the stated substrates, preparation, cure and test conditions.

Tropical weathering
Lap shear was evaluated after 30, 60 and 90 days at 40°C and 92% relative humidity. ARALDITE 2031-1 is identified as having high weathering resistance.
Sand-blasted aluminum; cure 16 h at 40°C; tested at 23°C.
Heat and Cataplasma ageing
Lap shear was evaluated after 30, 60 and 90 days at 70°C and after ISO 9142/E2 Cataplasma cycles combining 70°C exposure with -20°C conditioning.
Heat-ageing cure: 16 h at 40°C. Cataplasma cure: 7 days at room temperature. Test temperature: 23°C.
Fluid immersion
Lap shear was measured after 30, 60 and 90 days at 23°C in IMS, fuel, ethyl acetate, xylene, lubricating oil, paraffin and water.
Sand-blasted aluminum; cure 16 h at 40°C; tested at 23°C.
