DOWSIL EA-2626

Main features

  • Fast Adhesive Cure
  • Non-Sag Placement Control
  • Robust Cured Mechanical Properties

Product Description

DOWSIL™ EA-2626 Adhesive is a two-component, room-temperature curing, non self-leveling adhesive. It utilizes a neutral alkoxy cure system and maintains a paste consistency. This adhesive is developed to provide durable adhesive sealing for components which exhibit different thermal expansion rates, or where fast cure requirements make one-part room temperature cure adhesives inappropriate.

Product Key Features

  • Two-Component Fast Cure - cures rapidly at room temperature with a fast cure in-depth, unlike typical outside-inward moisture cure adhesives, allowing for rapid handling of bonded components.
  • Mix Ratio - designed to be used with SILASTIC™ Q3-3636 Catalyst in a mix ratio of 100 parts base to 13 parts catalyst by weight.
  • Non-Sag Rheology - features a non self-leveling, paste consistency that ensures the material remains in place during application.
  • Robust Mechanical Profile - cures to deliver a Shore A hardness of 43 to 45, a tensile strength greater than 1.9 MPa, and an elongation at break of more than 200%.
  • Environmental & Heat Resistance - offers excellent weathering, U.V., and heat resistance up to 190°C, alongside good resistance to hot and humid conditions.

Applications

This adhesive provides good, durable adhesion to a range of substrates including plastics, metals, and glass, making it highly effective for both automotive and appliance manufacturing[cite: 1742].

  • Automotive Lighting - typically used in automotive manufacturing for bonding polycarbonate or glass lenses to the reflector housings of headlamps and fog lamps.
  • Appliance Assembly - serves as a perfect solution in appliance manufacturing, especially for oven and ceramic hob assembly, seamlessly bonding glass to metal, painted metal, or plastic.
  • Dissimilar Materials - provides durable sealing for components that exhibit different thermal expansion rates.

Additional Information

Two-Component Fast Room Temperature Cure Adhesive

DOWSIL™ EA-2626 Adhesive

DOWSIL™ EA-2626 Adhesive is a two-component, non-self-leveling silicone adhesive system engineered to deliver a fast room-temperature cure in-depth, rather than curing outside-inward like typical moisture-cure adhesives. Utilizing a neutral alkoxy cure system, it consists of DOWSIL™ EA-2626 Base paired with SILASTIC™ Q3-3636 Catalyst (available in Grey or Special Black). This high-performance adhesive is specifically developed to provide durable, elastic structural bonding and sealing for components exhibiting different thermal expansion rates, offering rapid handling capabilities without the need for temporary storage infrastructure.

Key Features

  • Two-component room-temperature cure executes a fast, thorough depth cure independent of joint thickness.
  • Non-self-leveling thixotropic paste consistency resists running or slumping, remaining under 2 mm of vertical flow.
  • Cures smoothly to form a highly resilient, flexible silicone rubber with robust weathering and UV stability.
  • Durable, unprimed adhesion profiles build rapidly onto glass, ceramics, metals, and selected automotive plastics.
  • High thermal resistance safely withstands exposure conditions continuously up to 190°C.
  • Excellent hot and humid aging performance, maintaining joint integrity after 7 days immersion in water at 70°C.

Processing Summary

Mix Proportions: Calibrated for a precise mix ratio of 100 parts base to 13 parts catalyst by weight. Volumetric pump parameters compute to 5.7:1 for the Grey catalyst and 5.9:1 for the Special Black catalyst.
Working & Tack-Free Windows: Exhibits a fast inline working snap time of 6 to 9 minutes at 23°C. The material develops a tack-free surface state within a quick 11 to 18-minute window.
Rapid Handling Turnaround: Deep cross-linking progresses fast at ambient room conditions, enabling bonded parts and assemblies to be transferred or handled within 10 to 120 minutes.
Cure Acceleration: Ambient moisture cures eliminate oven operations, but the cure and adhesion strength build rate can be further quickened by applying moderate heat at 60-70°C for 10 minutes.

Process Notes

Storage and Shelf Life
  • Store DOWSIL™ EA-2626 Base in unopened original containers at or below 32°C to retain a 12-month shelf life.
  • Store SILASTIC™ Q3-3636 Catalysts (Grey and Special Black) in unopened original containers at or below 25°C to realize a 5-month shelf life.
  • Keep containers tightly closed to prevent atmospheric moisture from contaminating the materials.
Surface Preparation
  • All bonding joint faces must be thoroughly clean, dry, and cleared of dust, dirt, or extraneous matter.
  • Degrease boundaries using pure industrial solvents like isopropyl alcohol, acetone, or methyl ethyl ketone (MEK).
  • Low surface energy substrates like polypropylene (PP) can achieve excellent hold via localized plasma or flame treatment.
  • Avoid using acetone or IPA alone if heavy processing oils are present, as they do not remove oils effectively.
Equipment and Mixing
  • Robotic meter/mix/dispense machinery must be fitted with precision gear or piston metering pumps for base and catalyst channels.
  • Dispense through an engineered static or dynamic mixing element array to ensure uniform composition.
  • Watch the extrusion profile closely; the presence of light-colored streaks or marbling indicates inadequate mixing.
  • Automated airless dispense equipment configuration is highly recommended to eliminate or minimize inline de-airing steps.

Tips and Troubleshooting

Issue Recommended Action
Light-colored streaks or marble patterning visible in the compound bead
  • This pattern denotes inadequate or non-homogeneous product mixing across base and catalyst lines.
  • Ensure components are blended thoroughly at a 100:13 weight ratio or specified volume indices (5.7–5.9:1).
  • Inspect meter/mix equipment configuration; evaluate static mixing element counts or dynamic heads.
Extended handling wait windows or slowdown in expected cure tracking speeds
  • Check material temperature values just prior to and following the mechanical mixing loop.
  • Maintain ambient application environments above standard factory levels to normalize cross-linking.
  • Introduce moderate inline heat acceleration at 60-70°C for 10 minutes to quicken handling throughput.
Adhesion tracking breakdown or low lap shear metrics on low-energy plastics
  • Unprimed structural bonds will not stick successfully onto non-reactive surfaces like raw Polypropylene.
  • Thoroughly clear joint boundaries using pure isopropyl alcohol, acetone, or MEK solvents.
  • Incorporate verified surface activation techniques such as localized inline flame or plasma treatment.
