DOWSIL P5200
Harmonization Code : 3208.20.90 | Paints and varnishes that are dispersed or dissolved in a non aqueous medium

Main features
- RTV and Heat-Cure Adhesion Promotion
- Wipe, Dip, or Spray Application
- 18-Month Shelf-Life Indicator
Product Description
DOWSIL™ P5200 Adhesion Promoter is a one-part liquid surface treatment made from a dilute solution of silane coupling agents and other active ingredients. It is applied in a very thin film to clean porous or non-porous bonding surfaces to enhance the adhesion of DOWSIL™ silicone sealants, adhesives, RTV materials, and heat-cure silicones. The product can be wiped, brushed, dipped, or sprayed, with a two-cloth cleaner-and-primer method specified for non-porous automotive surfaces. It supports substrates including metals, glass, ceramics, masonry, wood, FR-4, and some structural plastics. A 31°C (88°F) closed-cup flash point, 18-month shelf life, and visible moisture-contamination indicator are important handling and process controls.
Key features
- Silicone process compatibility: Supports moisture-curing RTV and heat-curing silicone systems.
- Broad substrate scope: Documented for metals, glass, ceramics, masonry, wood, FR-4, and some plastics.
- Flexible application: Apply a very light, even coat by wiping, brushing, dipping, or spraying.
- Fast carrier evaporation: Evaporation rate is reported as comparable to isopropyl alcohol.
- Storage control: 18-month shelf life below 32°C (90°F), with milky appearance indicating moisture contamination.
Applications / Suitable for
- Automotive sealant cleaning and priming on porous and non-porous bonding surfaces
- Electronics boards, assemblies, components, and housings using RTV or heat-cure silicones
- Building and façade sealant substrate preparation on masonry, granite, wood, metals, and selected plastics or coatings

Surface preparation, application, and cure
Apply only after the bonding surface has been cleaned and prepared for the specific substrate and silicone system. Use a thin, uniform coat and follow the application-specific drying or cure window before applying the silicone elastomer, sealant, or adhesive.
Store below 32°C (90°F) in the original tightly closed container and minimize exposure to atmospheric moisture. Shelf life is 18 months from manufacture when stored as directed; follow the product label use-by date. Do not use material that has become milky or shows substantial white precipitate, as this indicates moisture contamination. Keep small working quantities in clean, dry containers and discard unused working material. The product is flammable; read the current SDS and container label before handling and keep away from ignition sources.
