Product Description
LORD® AP-134 Adhesion Enhancer/Surface Modifier is a one-coat, moisture-cure primer used to promote adhesion to polar substrates including architectural and automotive glass, steel, aluminium, brass, e-coated metal, glass fabric, ceramic tile, vitrified clay pipe, concrete and selected plastics. It also functions as a surface treatment for reaction-injection-moulded polyurethane bonded to glass. LORD AP-134 requires no mixing or dilution and applies by spray, dip or polyester felt applicator. For optimum adhesion, apply a 1.52–2.54 µm dry film, then hydrolyse for 1–2 hours at 21–32°C and 50–80% RH, or use an accelerated 88°C oven cure for approximately three minutes with humidity-controlled incoming air.

LORD® AP-134 Adhesion Enhancer/Surface Modifier
A clear, straw-yellow, solvent-borne primer used to prepare glass and other polar surfaces for downstream adhesive, topcoat or encapsulating-polymer application. Its moisture-cure hydrolysis can be completed at ambient temperature and controlled humidity or accelerated in a humidity-supplied oven.

Prime polar surfaces before the selected adhesive, topcoat or encapsulating polymer

Clean the substrate and deposit a uniform micron-scale film
- For optimum glass adhesion, clean the bond surface with a vinegar-modified glass cleaner.
- For other applications, wipe the surface with a suitable validated solvent.
- Handle cleaned parts carefully to prevent fingerprints, dust, oil and recontamination.
- Apply by spray, dip or polyester felt applicator.
- Use a single coat for most applications unless product-specific testing requires another process.
- Control application to a 1.52–2.54 µm dry-film thickness.
- Avoid puddling, runs, edge accumulation and non-uniform coverage.
- Keep transfer and application equipment dry and compatible with the solvent system.
Humidity is part of the cure process
Allow 1–2 hours at 21–32°C and 50–80% RH.
Use approximately 88°C for three minutes with incoming oven air maintained at 50–80% RH.
Large or high-thermal-mass parts may require additional oven time because of heat-sink effects.
For best adhesion, apply the topcoat or encapsulating polymer within 24 hours after the primer cures.
The 2026 sign-industry selector guide uses a 120-minute hydrolysis instruction for glass, ceramic and stone. Treat that as the preferred application-specific timing when following SG1002.
Cleanup, storage and safety
Remove wet LORD AP-134 with toluene or alcohol. Remove cured material by mechanical abrasion, blasting or grinding. Shelf life is one year from date of shipment when stored at 21–27°C in a dry, well-ventilated area in the original unopened container. After opening, protect the primer from moisture; use a desiccant cartridge when drawing from a 55-gallon drum. The current US SDS classifies LORD AP-134 as a highly flammable liquid and vapour with inhalation, skin, eye, reproductive, aspiration, organ-toxicity and aquatic hazards. Use trained personnel, explosion-proof ventilation and electrical equipment, grounding and bonding, non-sparking tools, suitable respiratory protection where required, protective gloves, clothing and eye/face protection.
Treat primer performance as part of the complete substrate–primer–adhesive system
LORD AP-134 is most useful where a polar substrate requires a controlled primer layer before structural adhesive, topcoat, encapsulating polymer or RIM polyurethane processing. Final qualification should address substrate composition and finish, cleaner residue, surface age, film thickness, application uniformity, humidity, hydrolysis time, part mass, oven airflow, time to downstream application, adhesive or coating chemistry, bondline, cure, environmental ageing and failure mode.
