Product Description

MOLYKOTE® G-3000 Synthetic Grease is a beige, approximately NLGI 3 grease based on synthetic oil and a lithium-complex thickener for dual-mass flywheels. The product is characterized by high shear and centrifugal stability, an approximately 400 mm²/s base-oil viscosity at 40°C, and a documented service range of -40°C to 180°C with short-term exposure to 220°C. Condition-specific data include a 2,200 N four-ball weld load, a 0.7 mm wear scar under 400 N, SKF-Emcor corrosion rating 0/0, approximately 0% oil bleeding, and 0.6% evaporation after 24 hours at 150°C. The 300°C dropping point is a test result and is not the maximum continuous service temperature.

Key features

  • Dual-mass flywheel grease: Synthetic-oil/lithium-complex formulation developed specifically for DMFW lubrication.
  • Mechanical stability: ISO 2137 penetration changes from 223 mm/10 unworked to 253 mm/10 after 100,000 strokes.
  • Temperature capability: Documented -40°C to 180°C service range with short-term exposure to 220°C.
  • Load, wear, and corrosion data: 2,200 N weld load, 0.7 mm wear scar under 400 N, and SKF-Emcor rating 0/0.
  • High-temperature retention data: Approximately 0% oil bleeding and 0.6% evaporation after 24 hours at 150°C.

Application context

Designed for dual-mass flywheel lubrication

Dual-mass flywheels combine sustained rotation with torsional oscillation. MOLYKOTE® G-3000 Synthetic Grease is documented specifically for this application and is described as having high shear and centrifugal stability, characteristics directly relevant to grease exposed to rotational and oscillatory duty.

Application validation should use the actual thermal profile, rotational speed, oscillation amplitude, contact materials, lubricant quantity, sealing design, and existing lubricant. The -40°C to 180°C service range is separate from the 220°C short-term limit and the 300°C dropping-point test result.
