- 40 to 150 deg C Service Range
- 18 kg Four-Ball Weld Load
- NLGI 2 PAO/Aluminum-Complex Grease
Product Description
MOLYKOTE® G-4500 FM Multi-Purpose Synthetic Grease is a white, NLGI 2 grease based on a fully synthetic PAO base oil, an aluminum-complex thickener, and white solid lubricants including PTFE. It is documented for rolling-element and plain bearings, pivot pins, cams, guides, ways, drive screws, gears, splines, chains, and sliding mechanisms, including machinery used in food processing. The approximate service range is -40°C to 150°C. Typical evaluation data include 0.9 N·m low-temperature torque at -40°C, a four-ball weld load above 3,100 N, a 0.5 mm four-ball wear scar, and an estimated Dn value of 325,000. Confirm the exact plastic, elastomer, regulatory, load, speed, and dispensing requirements for the intended assembly.
Key features
- Synthetic grease system: PAO base oil with an aluminum-complex thickener and white solid lubricants, including PTFE.
- Operating-temperature range: Approximate service range of -40°C to 150°C.
- Load and wear test data: More than 3,100 N four-ball weld load, more than 18 kg Timken OK load, and a 0.5 mm wear scar under the stated test conditions.
- Low-temperature evaluation: ASTM D4693 torque result of 0.9 N·m at -40°C.
- Retention data: Typical oil bleed of 3.1 wt% and evaporation of 0.4 wt% after 24 hours at 100°C.
- Material-selection context: Supplier literature identifies compatibility with many plastics and elastomers; verify the exact grade and exposure conditions before use.
Applications / Suitable for
- Rolling-element and plain bearings
- Gears, drive screws, splines, cams, guides, and ways
- Pivot pins, chains, and sliding mechanisms
- Machine elements involving selected plastic, rubber, or metal interfaces

Additional Information
MOLYKOTE® G-4500 FM Multi-Purpose Synthetic Grease
A white NLGI 2 grease using PAO base oil, an aluminum-complex thickener, and white solid lubricants for bearings, gears, drive screws, guides, chains, and other machine elements. Its approximate -40°C to 150°C range is supported by condition-specific low-temperature torque, load, wear, bleed, evaporation, and bearing-speed data.
MOLYKOTE® G-4500 FM is a white, fully synthetic multi-purpose grease for machine-element lubrication.
Grease composition, consistency, and viscosity
| Property | Value | Unit | Method / condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Color | White | — | As supplied |
| NLGI consistency class | 2 | — | DIN 51818 |
| Worked penetration at 25°C | 265–295 | mm/10 | ASTM D217; 60 strokes |
| Base-oil viscosity at 40°C | 100 | cSt | ASTM D445 |
| Base-oil viscosity at 100°C | 14.4 | cSt | ASTM D445 |
| Specific gravity at 25°C | 0.84 | g/mL | ISO 2811 |
| Usable life | 60 | months | At or below 40°C in original unopened containers |
Typical values are not specification limits. NLGI grade, penetration, base-oil viscosity, and specific gravity describe different properties and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Temperature, retention, load, wear, and speed data
| Property | Value | Unit | Method / condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Approximate service-temperature range | -40 to 150 | °C | Supplier-documented range |
| Dropping point | >270 | °C | ASTM D2265; test transition, not service limit |
| Oil bleed | 3.1 | wt% | FD 791-32/2; 24 h at 100°C |
| Oil evaporation | 0.4 | wt% | FD 791-32/2; 24 h at 100°C |
| Low-temperature torque | 0.9 | N·m | ASTM D4693; at -40°C |
| Four-ball wear scar | 0.5 | mm | ASTM D2266; 40 kg, 1,200 rpm |
| Four-ball EP weld load | >3,100 | N | ASTM D2596; minimum |
| Timken OK load | >18 | kg | ASTM D2509 |
| Estimated Dn value | 325,000 | mm·rpm | Bearing inside diameter (mm) × speed (rpm) |
Results are condition-specific laboratory values. The dropping point is not a continuous service limit, and the bench load and wear metrics do not define bearing, gear, or machine capacity.
Prepare and dispense the grease consistently
Apply to clean lubrication points using a clean brush, grease gun, or controlled manual or automated dispensing equipment. Grease quantity, fill level, distribution, and relubrication practice should be established for the actual component geometry and duty cycle.
Use controlled dispensing and the equipment manufacturer’s specified grease quantity and fill practice.
Usable life is 60 months from the date of production when stored at or below 40°C in the original unopened container. Keep containers properly labeled, avoid strong oxidizing agents, use adequate ventilation, and review the current safety data and container label before handling.
Multi-purpose machinery lubrication applications
Application suitability depends on the actual contact materials, load, speed, temperature, contamination, lubricant quantity, dispensing method, and maintenance practice. The contexts below reflect documented uses and available product data.
